No Long Goodbyes

When death strikes someone I know, someone I love, it makes me think of my own mortality. It rearranges my perspectives in life....yet again.

Who is it that said, "death comes suddenly into the night?" ~thinks~

A friend of mine died yesterday. He had lymphoma. I talked to him about 2 weeks ago. There was something furtive about his behaviour even though he insisted that he was fine. The only tell tale sign that he was sick was the fact that whenever he spoke he would catch his breath in mid sentence.

He died and nobody knew he was THAT sick. So we were shocked because we felt it was too sudden. When he was alive, we usually meet at another friend's house to hang out, play cards, pictionary, madjong, or just to talk. One minute you're with him in a roomful of people, then all of a sudden he'd go out the back door without saying goodbye. All along you'd think he was still there until you realized he had simply sneaked out and gone home. Whenever I asked him why he leaves without saying goodbye, he'd reply, it's better that way, no fuss, no hassle. Saying goodbyes are too darn long, he'd say. When he died suddenly, I thought to myself, "very typical Warren." He hated goodbyes. Until the end he wanted no fuss on exits.
